Nigel took the prior-map question much further than a comparison link: he extracted the data, counted what was actually there, tested overlap, repaired the build, identified missing domains and built a fresh citation-counting experiment.
Permission and attribution
Nigel confirmed on 25 August 2026 that The Necessary Tangle may incorporate all relevant changes from his systems-map fork, with appropriate credit. This page is the durable credit record; individual code files also retain their history through the public fork and pull request.
The *Map of Systemic Evolution* itself was already in Benjamin P Taylor’s 2019 collection of former systems maps and histories and in the Tangle’s registered comparator corpus. Nigel is credited for the extraction, analysis and implementation — not inaccurately as the person who first found or supplied the map.

Corrections made while incorporating it
The fork said the Map of Systemic Evolution supplied no meaning or legend for its links. Its GraphML has no edge-specific labels, but the public URANOS page does say that directed edges show major influences between topics and supplies a scientific-realm colour legend. This release therefore keeps all links as source-reported major influences, not as meaningless lines and not as verified Tangle relations.
The counted-map line has also been narrowed from “work on X cites work on Y” to the more exact claim: records whose titles matched X contained cited-reference strings matching Y. That difference matters when labels are broad or ambiguous.
What was deliberately not published
- the private Scopus corpus and any licensed abstracts, affiliations, keywords or other source fields;
- 9,280 raw cited-reference strings and Scopus EIDs embedded in the fork’s edge evidence;
- a private Claude artefact URL that other readers could not open;
- claims of complete reproducibility while the corpus shrink step and source exports are unavailable;
- the fork’s older generated 0.17 site files, which would have overwritten the current 0.20 build.
Those exclusions are not a rejection of Nigel’s work. They are the boundary that lets the useful work be incorporated without misdescribing rights, evidence or the current application.
