Every source node and every source link is here. The makers describe the arrows as major influences between topics. We preserve that meaning while declining to pretend that each influence has been independently checked or more precisely typed.
Source-owner review completed. Benjamin Hadorn reviewed the exact package identified by SHA-256 cc0aaa4adc58… and approved the enhanced version for publication on 31 August 2026. The scope grant, reviewed files and publication decision remain separate records.
What the source actually says
The URANOS page says that nodes denote topics; scientific work or research areas; and that directed edges illustrate major influences between topics. Its published colour legend classifies scientific realms. The GraphML carries no edge-specific label, citation or finer influence type, so that generic statement is the limit of what we import.
Read every line as “the source map reports a major influence”, not “The Necessary Tangle has verified this influence”. Colour identifies a realm; it is not evidence and does not tell us whether the influence was teaching, citation, derivation, collaboration or something else.

Focused neighbourhoods use a reading layout; “complete source layout” restores the positions supplied in the GraphML. Both views retain the same filtered source structure. This comparator is not part of the canonical Tangle graph.
Cumulative reconciliation ledger
Five source nodes currently have a direct same-named concept or tradition match; 57 compound or narrower/broader nodes have at least one human-reviewed component match; 588 remain unresolved. Of the 1,320 source links, 47 have both endpoints at least partly mapped, 231 have one and 1,042 have neither. Only one mapped pair already has an independently sourced canonical Tangle relationship. No canonical relationship was created merely because this map draws a line.

Files, changes and review
The original 2016 GraphML is retained byte for byte inside the reviewed archive. The enriched derivative adds attribution, permission, reconciliation and evidence-state fields without removing or adding a source node or source edge. The manifest identifies every reviewed file and checksum.

Review is a publication condition. Every adapted, extended or modified graph or dataset is returned to the maintainers for review and verification before publication. Approval attaches to the exact reviewed derivative; later graph-data changes trigger another review.
Provenance, permission and credit
The published history records the map as originated by Eric Schwarz in 1996; extended in 1998 with material from Will Durant’s The Story of Philosophy; elaborated in 2000-01 for the International Institute for General Systems Studies; and extended in 2016 by Benjamin Hadorn. In accordance with the permission response, the original material and extensions are attributed to Eric Schwarz, Benjamin Hadorn and Beat Hirsbrunner.
On 26 August 2026 Benjamin Hadorn authorised the requested retention, parsing, visualisation, annotation, extension, derivative publication and independently checked incorporation, subject to full attribution and pre-publication review of modifications. He confirmed that separate approaches to the other parties were not required for the complete version if those conditions were met. This project-specific permission is not presented as a general CC BY-SA relicensing of the original. On 31 August 2026, he confirmed that he had checked the exact checksummed package and approved use of the enhanced version in this way.
The map was already in Benjamin P Taylor’s 2019 SysCoI prior-map collection. Nigel Williams extracted and analysed the GraphML and built the first comparator implementation; Benjamin P Taylor supplied the prior registration, permission work and cumulative editorial reconciliation.
