These three CoExplorer maps offer useful comparisons with The Necessary Tangle; two Anselm articles offer a different way into the field, through people, reading, and things to try.
Three maps, with different questions
The cybernetics map organises concepts around named thinkers. The systems map presents knowledge traditions and a genealogy. The Troncale map focuses on systems concepts and linkage propositions. They are complementary reading entrances, not interchangeable histories of one settled field.
Peter Tuddenham's CoExplorer teaching project, credited with the College of Exploration, is a key comparison source. Credit for the project does not make every interpretation an established historical or scientific claim. This page links to the original work and retains its separate identity.

A proposition has a range of validity
McNamara and Troncale's 2012 paper, pp. 3-4, separates evidence for a relation in a particular system from the proposal that it applies elsewhere.
