A paper exercise about the classic structure, not delivery of a licensed or full Team Syntegrity event. It does not replace facilitation, topic formation, role allocation or the complete protocol. Other developed formats exist.
This is original learning material, not a reproduced official course. Mechanical checks have determinate answers within the stated case. Worked comparisons for open judgements show defensible reasoning, not the only possible model. Specialist pedagogical review is not recorded.
The case
Fictional case: a regional partnership needs to consider twelve interdependent topics about access to advice. For the classic structural model, use twelve topic groups and thirty participants, with each person a member of two groups and each group having five members. This is a membership calculation only; critic, observer and facilitator roles are additional and must not be erased from a real design. For a small original rehearsal, focus on three topics: A access, B workforce and C funding. Lia is in A and B; Mo in B and C; Ren in C and A. In round 1, A proposes longer opening hours, B identifies an unfilled staffing requirement and C states a fixed short-term budget.

Use paper, your own drawing tool or the notes below. Attempt each step before opening its comparison. Describe a diagram in words when that is more accessible.
1. Check the classic membership arithmetic.
Produce: Two independent counts of membership places.
Compare your work for step 1
Twelve groups times five members gives 60 places. Thirty participants times two memberships also gives 60. The counts agree, but arithmetic alone does not prove a valid icosahedral allocation, workable timetable or fair process. Nor does it count the separate critic and observer roles.
2. Trace how the three-topic rehearsal can change the next discussion.
Produce: A round-2 note for each topic.
Compare your work for step 2
Lia can bring workforce constraints into access; Mo can bring staffing implications into funding; Ren can connect funding limits back to access. A might revise opening hours or propose a bounded trial. B might distinguish staff capacity from scheduling. C might examine whether a different allocation is possible. This is an original reduced network exercise, not a miniature claimed to preserve the full Syntegrity protocol.
3. Identify what is lost in three isolated breakout groups followed by one report-back.
Produce: One structural difference and one possible consequence.
Compare your work for step 3
The overlapping membership and recurrent reconsideration are absent. A report-back can transmit a summary, but need not let each topic's reasoning be altered through repeated encounters with the others. A good facilitator could still enable learning; the point is to inspect the communication design rather than assume any workshop is Syntegration.
4. Test a proposed event design for exclusion and premature closure.
Produce: Two design questions and a record of unresolved disagreement.
Compare your work for step 4
Ask who helped form the opening question and who cannot participate under the proposed format. Ask how critics can challenge an emerging account and how disagreements survive synthesis. A symmetric allocation does not guarantee equal influence, legitimacy or consensus. Record a remaining disagreement, such as access versus staffing priorities, rather than describing it as resolved by geometry.
Check the basic distinctions
These checks test the supplied case, not your overall competence. Open answers and model variants still need your judgement.
Repair a defective model or claim
A conference has twelve tables and thirty delegates. The organiser declares the process to be Syntegrity and promises consensus.
Compare your repair
The counts are not the method. Inspect topic formation, overlapping memberships, critic and observer roles, recurrent discussion, facilitation and the underlying structure. Do not promise an agreement that participants have not made.
Try a changed case before looking
Lia attends A only and Mo attends B only, while Ren carries every message. What structural risk appears?
Compare the changed case
Cross-topic learning depends on one person, creating a bottleneck and a privileged interpreter. Other connections or repeated cross-topic encounters would be needed. The repair should preserve accurate differences rather than force every group to repeat Ren's summary.
Review the process, not just the score
Membership arithmetic is correct and distinguished from total roles.
Overlapping participation and iteration have an explained purpose.
The reduced exercise is not passed off as the complete protocol.
Legitimacy and disagreement are not assumed to follow from symmetry.
A different model can be defensible when its purpose, assumptions and reasoning are explicit. A contradiction, incorrect unit, invented fact or unacknowledged change of purpose needs repair. Keep both your first attempt and revision.
