Fictional case: an advice charity delivers appointments. This process uses trained advisers, an appointment system and suitable rooms. Advisers are maintained through supervision and training; new advisers come through recruitment. The appointment system is maintained by a supplier-management process. Rooms depend on facilities maintenance. Every supporting process also needs people, information and time. Recruitment was suspended because managers counted only time spent on appointments as productive.

Produce: Two lists and a notation legend.
Processes include delivering appointments, training advisers, recruitment, supplier management and facilities maintenance. Assets include the available adviser capability, appointment system and rooms. In the introductory FEM notation use ovals for processes and rectangles for assets, or labelled text equivalents. 'Recruitment' is not interchangeable with 'trained advisers': one changes an asset the other process needs.
Produce: A process-asset-process-asset chain with typed relations.
Deliver appointments uses adviser capability; training maintains that capability; training itself uses trainers, time and learning material. Recruitment acquires new adviser capacity. Supplier management maintains access to the appointment system. Specify the relation in words rather than drawing an unlabelled arrow whose direction could mean several things.
Produce: A dependency-based prediction and an observation plan.
Suspending recruitment can weaken future adviser capacity even while today's appointment utilisation rises. Track departures, recruitment lead time, capability and available appointments. The model identifies a dependency; it does not calculate the rate of decline without further data or a dynamic model.

Distinguish processes, assets and the relations of use and asset management. A process flowchart may be useful, but it answers a different question.
The charity outsources the appointment system. Does that remove it from the model?
No. The capability remains a dependency even when externally provided. Model the asset or access it supplies, the supplier relationship that sustains it, and the relevant boundary and control limits.
A different model can be defensible when its purpose, assumptions and reasoning are explicit. A contradiction, incorrect unit, invented fact or unacknowledged change of purpose needs repair. Keep both your first attempt and revision.
